FAQ

What is Tallow?

Tallow is a rendered form of beef fat ( can also be made from mutton), mainly made up of triglycerides.

What is Tallow used for?

Rendered and purified tallow can be used in skincare, candles, soap making and cooking.

Where do you source your beef fat from?

We get our beef fat from a family ranch in Aggassiz, BC

Will my products smell like beef?

After we have rendered the fat, we triple purify to remove any leftover impurities.

Why is the consistency different from the last batch?

Every cow is different. We source grass fed, grass finished fat that spend their life out on pasture with no added hormones, antibiotics or grains. Some cows fat has a more buttery texture to it while others is grainy. No matter the consistency as soon as it hits your skin it will melt right in.

What are the benefits of using tallow?

It is rich in fatty acids that help to form the lipids that keep your skin protected and moisturized. It is loaded with vitamins, antioxidents and CLA (Conjugated linoleic acid - a lipid shown to have powerful health benefits). It helps to increase skin’s flexibility and ability to heal. It has almost the same chemical composition and structure as human sebum. Tallow in Latin is “Sebum”!

How much should I use?

A little goes a long way. We suggest starting with a small amount and working it into the skin then add more if needed.

How can I use your whipped tallow balm?

  • as a makeup remover
  • on the ends of our hair if its feeling dry
  • on our hands after we have finished working in the garden or washing dishes
  • as an all over face and body lotion
  • on a burn of any kind
  • on eczema and other skin conditions (diaper rash)
  • as a lip chap

The beauty of this is that you can use it head to toe! We suggest that you do a small patch test before applying to a larger area.
